Bolgoda Plains

Bolgoda Plains is to give a voice to the University of Moratuwa Researcher. Our eco-system spans 6 faculties with 35 departments and 9 centers. University of Moratuwa serve research facilities at 155 laboratories under supervision of 396 academic staff. Post Graduate research students’ community has just exceeded 500. University of Moratuwa at present has a physical footprint of 25 Acres on the Bolgoda Plains! Communicating and dissemination are key ingredients of any research endeavor. The goal the magazine would pursue is in realizing the impact the society expects.

Types of Articles

Feature articles present information about ongoing work in a research domain. This can include state-of-the-art reviews of the knowledge in that area, or preferably, the work of UOM researchers in that direction. The article can include details on the importance of the problem under investigation, the current status of knowledge, the ongoing work, key findings, the next steps. and the impact on the society.

The images provides with the articles need to be relevant to the article topic. Images representing ongoing research activities at UOM and/or research outcomes are especially welcome.

Option 01:
It is a 4-page article with 3-4 images maximum, quotations Number of words: 1200 words including the reference (Article:1000 words, References:200 words or less, 4-5 it may include)

Option 02:
It is a 3-page article with 2-3 images maximum, quotation Number of words 900 words including the reference (Article: 800 words, References:100 words or less, 4-5 it may include)

Research news writeups should focus on recent events, such as noteworthy collaborations and partnerships, significant awards and achievements, and other special occasions.

• It is a 1-page article with 1 image maximum
• Number of words: 300 words No reference
• (Article: 400 words, Image May have a larger description)

Research briefs are intended to provide information on ongoing research activities at UOM in concise form. These should ideally be based on a recently published research article or an experimental procedure. The topic should be capable of eliciting interest about research among general public, and this type of article is intended to convey complex research work in easily comprehensible laymen terms. If the article is based on a research paper, a full citation and a link to the article should be provided at the end.

• It is a 2-page article with 3-4 images maximum
• Number of words: 500 words including the reference
• (Article: 400 words, References:100 words or less, 3-4 it may include)

Young Researchers are intended to provide information on highlighted research activities at UOM at the undergraduate level. The topic should be capable of catching interest general public. If the article is based on a research paper, a full citation and a link to the article should be provided at the end.

• It is a maximum 2-page article with 1-2 images maximum
• Number of words: 500 words including the reference

Picture Article present information about ongoing work in a research domain with a picture story and less words to narrate the project details. The article can include details on the importance of the problem under investigation, the ongoing work.

The images provides with the articles need to be relevant to the article topic. Images representing ongoing research activities at UOM and/or research outcomes are especially welcome.

• It is a 5-page article with 6-10 images and quotation
• Number of words: 500 words including the reference

Research highlights should focus on special finding of research in brief.

• It is a 2-page article with 2 image maximum
• Number of words: 400 words No reference

Interview of a past academic on their achievement, significant junctures on the journey at UoM, and their inputs to the university as well as to the society. 4-5 page story-type article with significant pictures that highlight the history of their limestones.

Therefore, in order to uphold the quality of the magazine and streamline the articles, the following guidelines are proposed for the revised version.
